Description of Plastic Sheets
The plastic sheets we produce at compound are extruded sheets that are ductile and easy to vacuum mould. Their mechanical and thermal properties (strength, corrosion resistance and ductility) make them ideal for component manufacturing.
Plastics are known to have high performance. They are lightweight, insulating, easy to thermoform and chemically resistant, not to mention cost effective. Two common processing methods for plastics are injection moulding and blister moulding.
Injection moulding is an expensive process and millions of plastic products must be produced from one set of moulds in order to make a return.
Blister moulding, involves the processing and shaping of plastic sheets. Plastic sheet manufacturers (which is what we do) are the ones who process the plastic, extruding sheet-type material and delivering it to the manufacturer, which requires secondary processing, including cutting, painting, and blister moulding steps. The advantage is that it is less expensive and more favourable for the production of plastic parts with more components and simple shapes.
Thus, the most common engineering plastics in the plastics industry, in addition to the category of synthetic rubber, are ABS for computer monitors, printers and keyboard covers; PC/ABS alloys used as rigid plastic parts for electronic equipment or automotive suspensions; PC polycarbonate for compact discs, MP3 housings, and mobile phones and automotive headlamps; polycarbonate (PC) for production of compact discs, MP3 housings and mobile phones and automotive headlights; polyethylene (PE) for cable insulators and moulded plastic housings; and polypropylene (PP) for consumer electronics, automotive wings (bumpers) and plastic pressure piping systems.
