Weatherability of ABS sheet refers to its stability in outdoor environments, especially in terms of its ability to resist natural factors such as ultraviolet (UV) radiation, temperature changes, humidity, and rain. The following are some common methods to enhance the weatherability of ABS sheet:
Blending:
Blending ABS with polymers that have better weathering properties, such as polycarbonate (PC), ASA or other speciality plastics, can improve its weathering properties. Using PC/ABS sheets and ASA/ABS sheets can be much more cost-effective than using pure PC sheets and ASA sheets.
Surface treatment technology:
using special surface treatment technology, such as plasma treatment, corona treatment, etc., first to improve the adhesion of the ABS surface, followed by spraying, painting and other processes to enhance the protective effect of ABS sheet.
Addition of weathering agents:
The addition of UV stabilisers and antioxidants to ABS resins is effective in slowing down the degradation of the material caused by UV exposure and oxidation. However, it should be noted that this may have an impact on the other properties of ABS sheets
How to store Black ABS Plastic Sheet
Choice of storage environment:
ABS sheet should be stored in a temperature stable environment, while maintaining a dry environment to avoid sheet moisture absorption, ABS sheet is easy to moisture, affecting the moulding performance of the sheet.
The stacking time should not be too long:
For ABS sheets used for blister moulding, our factory will put two packs of desiccant inside the package, once opened, the desiccant will be oxidised and become invalid quickly. Therefore, storage time needs to be minimised, especially for opened sheets.
Avoid light:
ABS sheets should be kept away from direct sunlight and strong UV light sources as these can cause the sheets to deteriorate, turn yellow in colour and lose mechanical properties.
Stacking method:
The sheets should be stacked flat, avoid tilting or vertical stacking to prevent deformation. The stacking height should not be too high to avoid deformation of the bottom plates due to excessive pressure.
